Welcome to my Mayoral Message for March - Edition 3 Our first Council meeting for the year was held last week. There was a lot of business to get through and a number of important resolutions were made. It was decided at the meeting that future Council meetings will commence at 1.00 pm. The next meeting is scheduled for 24 March, with members of the community always welcome to attend. Our Coleambally residents will be pleased to hear that the reconstruction of Bencubbin Avenue is a step closer with the decision made to borrow funds to meet the funding shortfall. This is a significant project that will be widely appreciated by all road users when completed. It was also decided to proceed with a detailed design and budget estimates for the Young Street subdivision in Darlington Point, with allotment sizes of 1,000m. Another outcome was the resolution to donate $500 to the Darlington Point branch of the 2RG Sunshine Club for their 60th birthday celebrations. Sixty years is a fantastic achievement and l congratulate the club for this. There are also lots of other terrific events across our area. The recent Riverina Fishing Classic at Darlington Point was a tremendous success. Congratulations to the organising committee for a great event and for the incredible donation of $20,000 to Rural Outreach Counselling. The International Women's Day luncheon is on in Jerilderie on 13 March, with guest speaker dual Paralympian Dr Hannah MacDougall. This free event is a wonderful chance to get together and celebrate the contribution women make to our rural community. I hope to see you there. We also have the AFL "Tackle your feelings" coaching program in Coleambally on 6 March, the Youth Week bus trip on 5 April and the Seniors Luncheon on 29 April. Council is very pleased to host and support these free events throughout our community. These events play a vital role in keeping our community strong and vibrant. Kind regards Ruth McRae Murrumbidgee COUNCIL Change of Monthly Meeting Commencement Times From March 2020, Council's monthly meetings will commence at 1.00 pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
