Message from the Mayor - Edition 1 Welcome to my first monthly Mayoral chat for 2020! Earlier this month Council made the decision to introduce restrictions for raw water usage in the Jerilderie township. This was in response to the town's extremely high water consumption over the summer period. It's very pleasing that the community has embraced these restrictions and is making every drop count. This year you will see work continuing on an exciting range of projects right across our area. Many of these projects, such as the new footpaths and outdoor furniture, have been made possible through the $1 million in drought funding we received last year. We are fortunate to have been allocated another $1 million grant for 2020, and Council is currently prioritising projects to be undertaken with this money. Another initiative that has been extremely well received in the community is the free pool entry. It is wonderful to see the community embracing this opportunity, with each pool seeing a significant increase in patronage. This year will also see some other exciting projects taking place, including the upgrade to Jerilderie Swimming Pool, the Junior Change Rooms at Coleambally Oval, and the female change rooms at the Darlington Point Football Ground. Tenders were awarded for the construction of the pool at the December Council meeting. With Australia Day just around the corner, it's a terrific chance to reflect on our values that define and unite us. These values will allow us to continue to grow our inclusive, diverse and rich nation. I encourage you to get along to the events that our Australia Day committee has organised. Thank you to our Australia Day committees for your hard work for these events. I would also like to congratulate all those who have been nominated for awards.
